Awarded to a garden with outstanding design.
Award of Excellence
These awards will be presented to outstanding gardens or features which best meet the award description. They will be awarded to gardens which demonstrate true excellence in the category. If no garden presents a strong value in the category, the award will not be presented. Judges have the discretion to make awards in categories not mentioned, if a garden truly demonstrates a strong aspect not covered by those categories already set out.

Award of Merit
Each garden will be given this ribbon if they meet the basic requirements according the rules set down and the garden is completed prior to judging.
Outstanding Plant Specimen
Additional awards will be made by a team from the San Diego Horticultural Society for outstanding plant specimens. Criteria include health and overall appearance of the plant, rarity, and horticultural merit.
